Background
DEGS2 encodes a bifunctional enzyme that is involvedin the biosynthesis of phytosphingolipids in human skin and inother phytosphingolipid-containing tissues. This enzyme can act asa sphingolipid delta(4)-desaturase, and also as a sphingolipidC4-hydroxylase.
